About The District.

The Mountian District, part of the NSW Central Coast, was settled in the mid 1800s. The grand vision of Sir Thomas Mitchell saw Mangrove Mountain linked to Sydney and Newcastle with the introduction of the Great North Road. This is still used as a scenic route for many tourists, and as an access road to further developed roads and the Sydney Newcastle Freeway. The area's beauty is enhanced by the surrounding National Parks some of which include trails allowing you to explore the local wildlife and Aboriginal history. The Yengo National park which includes part of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage area includes an intact example of the early 19th century version of the Great North Road.

The Central Coast, including the Mountain District, is divided into two councils, Gosford City Council and Wyong City Council. Both councils are committed to the growth of the Central Coast with many improvements scheduled. Combined funding from both councils, aids in many of the activities which are appreciated by the Mountain District.
